okay...so after more than one month and a half working, i want to share some tips with you guys about being a doctor in malaysia!

1) be as ugly as you can to work (as long you wear neat clothes la...) this goes especially to girls. you dont have to do extra efforts to do your hair or to apply make-ups.
if not, semua orang akan kenal you. or, people might make fun of you behind your back *horrors*
so, a BIG no-no, apatah lagi if it's your first posting.....
seriously, NOOOOO!!!
but actually, it depends la...like me in HTAR, im dealing with mostly third class citizens, so yeah, why would i wear fancy clothes to hospital kan...pemakaian mesti kena dengan tempat, masa, dan tujuan...

2) if you're a UK/ ireland/ indian graduates, dont worry people, you are doing okay!!!!!! you dont even need to feel threatened by malaysian graduates because what you learn is up to the standard.
no comments about graduates from other universities though.
its mainly because either i havent met them yet (so, how am i able to judge) or.....i simply i dont want to comment. hehe...

3) be nice to the nurses......jeng jeng jeng....i wont comment further on this issues because it's quite sensitive. but believe me, when you are nice and polite to them, it will favour you and make your work go smoother.....

4) dont be too close to your patients!!!!!
or else they will always bug you! they will ask you questions. if you are unsure about it, tell the truth, tell them, "I DO NOT KNOW!" dont try to sound intelligent and give them the wrong info...

5) do not argue with your bosses, meaning, anyone higher than you, your MOs, your specialists. if you get scolded and think that you didnt do any mistakes, simply apologize (especially if you know the MO/ specialist is a difficult one). accept whatever he/ she says (no matter how wrong you think they are).....

6) be hard-working! finish all your work. do not depend on your colleagues to finish your work. do not depend on the nurses to remind you what you have missed. do not do nothing because people will eventually find out. you'll be surprised how could your bosses know about your laziness even when they are not around....spies are everywhere!!!!!!

7) its helpful if you are staying nearby....like me, my house is only 5 minutes away from the hospital. so, i dont mind staying after 5. i know i have so many things to learn and whenever you have the chance, be with someone who are more wise than you and absorb the knowledge as much as you can!

8) be responsible. if someone ask you, "whose patient is this?" and you really do not know who's taking care of that patient, just admit that the patient is under your care. your specialist will love you because you are a resposible person.
work like a team.....cover for your colleagues....

9) be outspoken. talk during rounds. be friendly. make yourself visible (just not physically- refer to number 1). be outstanding because you know your patients and you know your stuff....be wherever they want to be.....if they want you to the clinic, show your face there and sit with different specialists everytime....dont be afraid to be with the garang bosses, they are actually okay deep down as long as you dont stupid mistakes!!!!! make sure your bosses know you so they will be more lenient on you....

eh, tak lah...kan budak malaysia kadang2 cakap orang grad overseas ni tak bagus, tapi sbenarnye kitorang sama taraf je dgn diorang. i tak pernah jumpa fresh graduate NZ and australia lagi, so tak boleh judge. tapi i ade jumpa budak yang grad dari tempat lain yang perlu banyak belajar...

ooo ok ok that's good to know haha. we are a very small country, nz, so i can understand if people dont really expect much from us :p

oh btw i've been dropping by your blog quite often gak pasal you're blogging about your internship, and for some reason cam berani gila mengcomment. in case you're like "what the hell sape nih", i was one of the juniors yang buat maresmart sentral a long time ago tau, so penah singgah sini dulu2 la haha
